Kia Ora all,
A couple of months ago, I was so lucky to meet with the youngest MP in parliament Chlöe Swarbrick. Leading up to this interview I was very excited to meet with her as she is so inspiring.

The first question I asked her was- What inspired her to become an MP- She started off by saying she was someone who was never meant to become an MP. she just fell in that place. She got into the bond of politics through political journalism. She was on a radio show- 95bfm where she would interview a whole lot of MPs, the thing she didn’t like about it was she was always waiting for something bad to happen. She would see all these problems and would want to fix them. She called this her political awakening.
I asked Chlöe what it was like when cannabis didn’t pass, she said that it was like a break-up as she had worked hard on getting it passed and it didn’t. She is proud of the people that worked on it with her, she said that the referendum got to a stage where it was like the question was do you like cannabis.

Chlöe has this feeling that if you tell her you can’t do it, she will do what she can to prove you wrong, so when everyone expected that she wouldn’t win Auckland Central, she worked as hard as she could to prove everyone wrong. She was so happy that she won Auckland Central. Chlöe said that she is so honoured to be the voice of Auckland Central in Parliament. Her goals for Auckland Central are to support small businesses and the community of Auckland.

I asked Chlöe about her and if it affects her in Parliament, she doesn’t know what it’s like to be anything about herself. Such as her age and her being a Green party MP she said these are the thing that makes her, Chlöe. She said it some times hard with being young because some MPs don’t take her seriously. She really had to prove herself to show that she is capable.
Chlöe is really passionate about the voting age being lowered to 16 because we have a right to have a voice. I also asked Chlöe if she would ever want to be Prime Minister- Chlöe said she would never want to become Prime Minister, she wants to be an MP to make a change and work hard to make the change. The last question I asked Chlöe was if she could swap a day with any MP, not from the Greens who would you want to swap with. Chlöe said that she would want to swap with Labour Grant Robertson to sign off a wealth tax and do all the financial stuff.
Thank you for reading this blog post I hope you enjoyed it. My next blog post will be with Labours Glen Bennett. Have a great weekend!
