Kia Ora all,
Today I will be writing about my interview with National Parties, Chris Bishop. He is the list MP for Hutt South and is ranked number three on the National party list. He is the shadow leader of the house and looks over housing, infrastructure and Covid19. Chris became an MP in 2014 and was the local MP for Hutt South from 2017 to 2020.
Chris became an MP because he wanted to make a difference in New Zealand. He always believed he had something to offer and that he could make a contribution. He says he was fortunate to have been working in Parliament before becoming an MP so he knew what he was getting into, and he believed he would be able to do the job. He joined the National Party because he believed in the National Party values like personal freedom and personal choice.
I asked Chris what his favourite thing about the National Party is. He loves the values and thinks they are the right values for New Zealand and the right values for him.
I also asked him who is his favourite person to work for the National Party. He said his favourite person to work with is Nicola Willis, they are besties.
I then asked what the National Party offered young voters, he said that the homeownership dream is slipping out of reach for young people, he says he is now the housing spokesperson so he says he's got a story to tell around housing. Which is really important for young people.
Chris is the spokesperson for covid19 so I asked him what he would do differently if he was the Minister. He said he would get vaccines in faster to get them out to people earlier. Get rapid tests out earlier.
After that I asked him what his thoughts on the voting age being lowered are, Chris said that he doesn't believe the voting age should be lowered because young people will not be wise enough to vote and there needs to be an age which is considered as an adult, so he thinks that the voting age being kept at 18 is a good age for it to be at.
The last question I asked him was if you could swap lives with an MP, not from your party. who would it be? He said Chloe Swarbrick because she's young and he would love to see what she does in a day.
Thank you for reading this blog post. I hope you have a great day.
